My work considers the primal experiences that transcend time and place, the skin and bones of our existence - what instinctively is done for self-preservation. Repetition plays an important role.
Recent work draws especially on the process of building and unveiling protective layers, questioning what lies beneath. Intuitive choices made to conceal or expose our vulnerable selves reveal our primal natures, stripping away our intellectual selves.
Materials of hammered metal, cast glass, steel wire, stained paper, ink, deteriorated mesh, and recycled billboard paper are methodically manipulated - a meditative, ritualistic process. Most works focus on the space beyond the line, defining the opening and liminal spaces, and are at once intuitve, deliberate, spontaneous, rigid, and fluid.
